Wonderful book by journalist and food critic, Grace Dent - I hoovered it up.
It is structured around Grace's life growing up in Cumbria in the 70s and 80s and her subsequent move to London, but is ultimately about so much more - families, friendship, nostalgia, ambition, prejudice and love.
Grace and I are exactly the same age and I found it so interesting that, despite me growing up on the southern most tip of Africa in the height of apartheid and global sanctions, our cultural references are almost identical. Makes me think that we are more of a time than we are of a place.
I highly recommend this book, particularly if you are in your 40s or 50s... nostalgia aplenty.
